Clark recommends ornithine during the cleanup because it breaks down ammonia in the liver, which Dr. Clark says is released when the microorganisms are killed.

Dr. Clark believes that insomnia is mainly due to the toxicity of ammonia in the brain. Ornithine is an amino acid made by the body. It is produced when another amino acid, arginine, is metabolized during the production of urea, a substance found in human urine.

Ornithine is a key compound in the urea cycle, one of the main processes for removing ammonia from the body.

Ornithine supplementation allows for a good night’s sleep. It can be taken continuously without harmful effects. It also helps to reduce physical fatigue.

The benefits of ornithine

1) Athletic Performance

Ornithine supplements are relatively popular among athletes and bodybuilders. In a survey conducted in a gym, 13.5% of people reported taking ornithine, and 9% reported using it regularly.

There is some evidence to suggest that Ornithine increases endurance and speeds recovery from exercise. In two clinical studies, people taking Ornithine recovered more quickly after exercise and reported feeling less tired. In one of these studies, ornithine appeared to increase anaerobic performance (burst, sprint or strength) in people.

It is important to note that all of these studies were very small, with fewer than 20 participants each. Larger studies will be needed to fully understand how ornithine supplements affect performance.

2) Sleep Quality

In a study of 52 stressed but otherwise healthy Japanese adults, 400 mg of ornithine per day reduced fatigue and improved sleep quality. Participants reported feeling less irritable, less angry and more rested after a night’s sleep.

Best of all, the study also found a significant reduction in cortisol levels in people taking ornithine supplements. Cortisol is a stress hormone; it can be used to measure stress, and it can also predict stress-related illnesses.

3) Chronic liver disease

The liver is the body’s most important filtration system for waste and toxins, and when it fails, all other organ systems are at risk, including the brain. Liver failure can affect cognition, behaviour and muscle control. This condition is called hepatic encephalopathy (HE), which literally means “brain disease of the liver”.

In cases of chronic liver disease, ornithine aspartate (LOLA) supplementation has been shown to prevent episodes of HE. LOLA reduced ammonia in the blood and improved cognitive symptoms, even in people with severe terminal illness.

3) Wound healing

Ornithine seems to accelerate wound healing. In mice, feeding ornithine after a cut increased the healing rate and the resistance of the new tissue.

This effect was particularly dramatic in 42 burn victims who received ornithine alpha-ketoglutarate (OKG). Even in severe cases where up to 95% of the body surface is burned, OKG accelerated the healing process and decreased protein degradation.

When the body heals a serious injury, it breaks down proteins to use them as a source of energy and convert them into new tissue. According to some authors, OKG may lead to less breakdown and faster healing.

Do not attempt to use OKG to treat any injury. If you are severely burned or otherwise injured, consult a physician.

4) Hangover Remedy

In one study, 400 mg of ornithine after alcohol consumption led to a decrease in hangover symptoms and improved recovery. People who took ornithine reported less fatigue, hostility and confusion in the morning after drinking.

There were only 11 participants in this study who took a 400 mg dose. Further studies will clarify the mechanism of this effect and determine whether higher or lower doses are better for hangover relief.
