Epsom salt takes its name from the Epsom salt spring in Surrey, England, where it was discovered. Epsom salt is a natural mineral compound of magnesium and sulphate, hence its name magnesium sulphate.

Epsom salt has been well documented over the years for its health and wellness benefits and has also been used in household chores and gardening.

As a dietary supplement

Magnesium plays several roles in the body. It helps regulate enzymes that facilitate various body functions. Epsom salt can be used to detoxify and purify the liver.

While bones and teeth rely heavily on calcium to maintain their structure and strength, calcium absorption is enhanced by magnesium. It also helps to regulate heart rate and supports normal blood pressure. And sulphates help improve nutrient absorption.

Using Epsom salt as a laxative

Magnesium sulfate increases the amount of water in the intestines, which promotes elimination to relieve occasional constipation. It generally results in bowel movements within 30 minutes to 6 hours after use.

Directions for use of Epsom Salt Laxative: Take up to 1 tablespoon, or as directed by a healthcare professional, and drink one or more glasses of water each time.

Epsom salt in the bath

Since the skin is a porous membrane, the Epsom salt added to the bath water triggers the process of reverse osmosis, which attracts toxins from the body. This leads to the elimination of heavy metals from the body.

Epsom salt added to bath water can be very soothing to a tired body. Magnesium sulfate is easily absorbed through the skin. As a soaking agent, it helps to calm the nervous system, reduce swelling and relax muscles. It can also relieve minor sprains and bruises, as well as skin irritations caused by insect bites, sunburn or poisonous plants.

Epsom salt and liver treatment

To understand in detail, the liver functions as a filter for your blood by removing toxins and harmful bacteria. Maintaining liver function is vital to your overall health. Purifying the liver after an illness or only once a month allows it to function optimally. Liver cleansing can be done at home using simple ingredients such as Epsom salt, water, grapefruit and olive oil. Allow time to relax, which is necessary during this cleansing action.

  1. Eat breakfast and lunch with fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid meat, bread and dairy products in order to have a light meal. This prevents a drop in bile production that inhibits the elimination of toxins.
  2. Mix 4 tablespoons of Epsom salt with 4 cups of water in a covered container. At 6 p.m., drink 1 cup of this mixture. Make sure you are completely relaxed, as this will aid the digestion and cleansing process.
  3. Drink another cup of Epsom salt water at 8 p.m. to relax again.
  4. Mix lemon and grapefruit juice with a cup of olive oil at 10pm. The cleaning is done during the night, while you rest.
  5. Drink another cup of Epsom salt mixture at 7 a.m. Do not eat anything before consuming the Epsom salt mixture. Repeat at 9 a.m.

Eat fruits and vegetables for the rest of the day, again avoiding meats, breads and dairy products. You can return to your normal eating habits the day after the liver purification is complete.

Tip: It is always a good idea to consult your doctor before starting a cleansing program.
